Chümoukedima, April 16 (MExN): The North East Institute of Social Sciences and Research (NEISSR), Chümoukedima, organised a formal programme at BAM Hall during the official inspection visit of a team from Nagaland University, Lumami.

The inspection team comprised Temjensosang of the Department of Sociology and Arjun Das of the Department of Mass Communication. The programme highlighted the institute’s academic achievements, vision and future expansion plans.

The programme began with an invocation by Chacko Karinthayil, followed by a welcome address from C P Anto, Principal of NEISSR. He described the institute as a pioneering centre for peacebuilding and social work education since 2014 and emphasised its integration of academic excellence with community engagement, research and skill development.

Anto highlighted the success of NEISSR students in national-level examinations and outlined future plans aligned with the National Education Policy 2020, including expansion of the Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) programme into a four-year course and the introduction of a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism and Mass Communication.

Prof Temjensosang appreciated NEISSR’s contribution to peacebuilding and youth development, noting that its focus on skill-oriented education reflects the vision of the National Education Policy 2020. He encouraged students to engage in self-reflection and continuous skill development for holistic growth.

Dr Arjun Das commended the institute’s clarity of purpose and commitment, stating that institutional success depends on vision as much as infrastructure. Highlighting the proposed journalism programme, he stressed the need for ethical and responsible media professionals in an era of misinformation and declining trust, and pointed to the interdisciplinary opportunities the field offers.

A presentation on NEISSR’s achievements and activities was delivered by Nlumpeule, who also chaired the programme. Cultural performances added vibrancy to the event, with Bilu Lohe and Vishili Sakhamo presenting a Chokri folk song.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by G L Khing, Vice Principal and Administrator, followed by the National Anthem and a group photo session.

Officials said the successful conduct of the programme alongside the inspection visit marked a significant step forward for NEISSR in its pursuit of academic excellence, innovation and societal impact.
