DIMAPUR, MAY 16 (MExN): A one-day social awareness program was held at Government Town Middle School, United Colony on May 16 in collaboration with MSW Students of North East Institute of Social Science and Research (NEISSR).
The day was marked with various competitive activities on social and environment issues and social responsibilities of younger generations. Altogether, 39 students participated for the drawing competition, 12 students participated for essay competition and another 10 students participated for the extempore speech competition. Prizes, sponsored by MSW Students of NEISSR, were distributed to the top-four students for each event.
Speaking on the occasion, the Headmistress of the school, Megolhoubino exhorted government schools to take such initiatives for capacity building in making school education relevant to contemporary issues and social realities. She also thanked the MSW trainees for helping the school in many ways through theirsocial work activities in school settings and also encouraged the trainees to continue helping the government schools.
The competition for the extempore speech was conducted during the morning assembly followed by the essay writing and the drawing competition in the first hour of the class. First four best position holders in the competitions were given out certificates and a set of stationery each. Shimran of class 7B took the first prize for essay writing; Chingtoak of class 6A for drawing and Tsalila of class 7B for extempore speech competition.
The program was organized by MSW Students of NEISSR based on social work principles and practices in school setting. The competitive program was aimed to provide platforms and opportunities for self-expressions and leadership development in social responsibilities.
MSW trainees, Johnny Y Patton and Chenithung Kikon speaking at the concluding session encouraged the students to come out of their fears and hesitations and to face the real world challenges it holds with courage and determination for the better of all and environment.
The program was conducted by eight MSW trainees, namely; Yantsow Patton, Amongla Jamir, Thungchio Ezung, Avikali, Manden Phom, Chenithung Kikon, Keyiteirai and Johnny Y Patton with active supports from the staff of the school.
