NEISSR marks World Social Work Day with peace walk, calls for unity and responsibility

Dimapur, March 17 (MExN): The North East Institute of Social Sciences and Research (NEISSR) observed World Social Work Day 2026 on March 17 with a peace walk and a call for unity, compassion and collective responsibility in addressing global challenge.

Delivering the keynote address on the event held under the theme, “Co-building Hope and Harmony: Harambee – Uniting a Divided World,” NEISSR Principal Rev Fr Dr C P Anto emphasised the need for peacebuilding in a fractured world.

Stating that peace can only be achieved through understanding, he urged participants to reflect on ongoing humanitarian crises, particularly in conflict-affected regions such as the Middle East, where prolonged violence has led to widespread suffering, displacement and loss of life.

Dr Anto also highlighted the need for compassion, dialogue and shared responsibility, stressing that humanitarian challenges such as limited access to food, water, healthcare and education require urgent global attention. 

Drawing on the principles of Harambee and Ubuntu, he underscored the interconnectedness of humanity and the importance of fostering social harmony.

The Principal also called on participants to uphold human dignity and act as agents of peace within their communities.

The observance concluded with a Peace Walk symbolisng solidarity, hope and the collective commitment of NEISSR towards building a more just, compassionateand peaceful society, inforemd an NEISSR release. 

A documentary on the life of Mother Teresa, Patroness of NEISSR, was presented at the event.
