Dimapur, March 3 (MExN): Students of North East Institute of Social Sciences and Research (NEISSR), Chümoukedima undertook various educational tours from February 1 to 10.

According to a press release received here on Friday, 14 Master of Social Work (MSW) students, specialised in Youth Development visited to Assam (Guwahati) and Meghalaya (Shillong) with the theme ‘Explore different social work cultures.’ They were guided by the faculty in charge Dr Abel Ariina, Asst Professor, NEISSR. 

The objectives of the study were to explore the social work culture in the North-East region and gain a realistic perspective of the organizations, to explore the unique programs, projects and to enhance professional social work skills, the release stated.

The students visited different places, NGOs and training centres and also held interactive sessions with different organizations and Institutions. As per the release, the students were able to enhance their learning aptitude and apply classroom learning into the fields. They were able to learn about the visions and missions implemented by various organizations to improve the prevailing conditions in the society.

Another group of MSW students (Community Development Specialization) visited Darjeeling during the same period. The theme of the educational tour was ‘Go Green Today, Save the World Tomorrow,’ was based on SGD-13. The objective of the study tour was to know the different NGOs administration and functions to broaden the prospect of learning. 

The students visited seven organizations in Darjeeling town, Siliguri and Bagdogra and interacted with 7 organizations namely Darjeeling Dioceses Legal Cell (DDLC), Darjeeling Dioceses Social Service Society (DDSSS), Mankind in Action for Rural Growth (MARG), TIEEDI, Sumita Cancer Society, West Bengal Voluntary Health Association (WBVHA) and Child in Need Institute (CINI).These organizations with their uniqueness and outreach programmes are helping the individual and community to grow towards self-sustenance with quality of life, the release stated.

It further stated that the interactions boosted the students' minds and hearts to contribute positively to the communities.

The students learnt the art of administration and various strategies for reaching out to the oppressed, marginalized and exploited people in urban and rural communities. They came to learn the role of organizations in delivering social justice, social service and community awareness on human rights, children and women’s rights, environment protection, human trafficking and sustainable living, it maintained. 

Meanwhile, team of 14 trainees guided by Elizabeth Pojar, Asst Prof, NEISSR, took part in a study tour for Peace and Conflict Transformation Studies (PCTS) specialization on the theme ‘Understanding conflicts and human rights for peaceful co-existence.’ They visited different organizations of Nagaland, Manipur and Kolkata including the Mao Hoho, President in Dimapur; Southern Angami Public Organization (SAPO) in Viswema; Manipur North Economic Development Association (MANEDA) in Senapati; Centre for women and Girls (CWG) in Tengnoupal District; Manipur Baptist Convention (MBC) in Imphal; and Azad Foundation and Missionary of Charity (MOC) in Kolkata. 

During the course of study tour the team learned from various organizations about their functions and structures and their application in promoting Peace through various means of workshops, trainings and peace events. The trainees also visited Kangla Fort, Kings Palace, Govindajee Laishang Mamang Temple and IMA market in Manipur and Victoria Memorial in Kolkata, the release informed.
