NEISSR welcomes new students

Dimapur, August 14 (MExN): North East Institute of Social Sciences and Research (NEISSR) observed its 5th Fresher’s Day on August 14 at the institute. Sushil Kumar Patel (IAS), Deputy Commissioner, Dimapur, Dr. Sedevi Angami, Director of CIHSR, and Thomas Kikon, Chairman, Lotha Hoho Dimapur were the special guests.  

Patel in his exhortation asked the youth to get connected with people in the villages and communities and also highlighted the positive strength of youth in Nagaland and the region. Stating that social problems and issues are increasing in the region, he viewed they must be dealt with creatively and scientifically. In this, he stressed on the need to work together with different disciplines and resolve the issues collectively, according to a press release received here. The DC further encouraged the MSW trainees to build up their positive energy and find solutions to the social issues professionally.  

Dr. Sedevi meanwhile spoke about the importance of inter-disciplinary approach to heal the social diseases. Students were asked to imbibe values and principles in life. “Social workers need to be extra humble when they approach the communities so that people will be free to come to them for help,” he added. Dr. Sedevi further appreciated NEISSR for introducing Peace and Conflict Transformation Studies stating it is the need of the region.  

Thomas Kikon, emphasizing the scope of social work in both the government and non-government sectors, motivated the MSW trainees to work for bettering humanity.  

Dr. Fr. CP Anto, the principal, highlighted the uniqueness of the core value (integrity), core principle (punctuality), and teaching methods (experiential learning) etc., of NEISSR. He also wished the freshers happy and academically fulfilling journey ahead.  

Tumchobeni Kithan projected glimpses of NEISSR portraying its activities, achievements and potentials. Angam Phom and Imtisenla Kubsari on behalf of the freshers expressed determination to equip themselves with the professional skills in the field of social work so as to bring social change.  

The new students were officially welcomed by the final year students with souvenirs.
