‘NEP to breathe new life into edu system of Nagaland’

Kohima, November 3 (MExN): Principal Director, Department of School Education (DoSE), Nagaland and Project Director, Nagaland Education Project (NEP)-The Lighthouse (NECTAR), Shanavas C IAS on Wednesday said that the project would breathe new life into the education system of the state. 

Shanavas said that DoSE has initiated the Nagaland Education Project (NEP)-The Lighthouse (NECTAR) committing to focused its efforts on enhancing quality and learning outcomes of government schools and improving overall quality of education in the State, according to a DIPR report. 

The Principal Director was addressing the district level awareness and sensitization programme on Nagaland Education Project (NEP)-The Lighthouse (NECTAR) with all the district level stakeholders, NGOs and various departments held at DPDB Hall, Kohima on November 3. 

He said that the project would provide greater opportunity for students and teachers to realise their potentials where education system in Nagaland faces several challenges, as ultimately reflected in the decline of its students learning outcomes measured by the National Achievement Survey (NAS). He also said that through this initiative, the Government has been committed to prioritize on addressing three targeted problems within fixed project duration such as, enhance the governance of schools across the state, improvement in teaching practices and enhancement of overall learning environment. 

Stating that with support from World Bank, the Department has launched the project, Nagaland Enhancing Classroom Teaching and Resources (NECTAR) which would be the first-ever WORLD BANK financed education project in the North-East region of India to be directly implemented by a state government. 

He also mentioned that the project would envisaged to directly benefit around 1,50,000 students in government schools in Nagaland, 20,000 teachers including school heads, 100 district and sub-district officers members of 2000 SMC and SMDCs.

DC Kohima Gregory Thejawelie requested the DoSE to address the prevailing issues and to ensure that education system in the state is improved with the right intervention to focus the quality of teachers with the best of their capabilities. He urged everyone to participate and coordinate each other for the future generation of the children.

The programme was chaired by Project Assistant, DMA SS Kohima Ruokuoneinuo, Deputy Secretary and Deputy Project Director Avelu Ruho also made a presentation on community investment and collective management. The discussion hour was lead by Sr SDEO Kohima, Theyievilie Suohumvü and conclusion remark was delivered by DEO Kohima, Neizetuonuo.
