The Nagaland Electricity Regulatory Board (NERC) conducted the 3rd Field Campaign meeting on Public Awareness Creation Effort (PACE) at Longkumer Kilem here today. The programme was organised by the apex Ao organisations – Ao Senden (Ao Hoho), Watsu Mungdang (Women Hoho), Ao Kaketshir Mungdang (students’ organisation) and the Mokokchung Chamber of Commerce and Industries.

Former chairman-cum-member of the NERC, Er SI Longkumer was the main speaker at the programme who enlightened the audience on ‘public awareness creation efforts’. Er SI Longkumer pointed out that the power sector belongs to everyone because all sections of the society are stakeholders in the power sector. Saying that the NERC aims to reform the power sector in the state, Longkumer however maintained that unless the eyes of the people and the department are opened, and unless the public are made aware of the working system of the power department, then reforming the power sector will be very difficult even if the government aspires to do so.

In this regard, he called upon the different NGOs, the church and concerned citizens to educate the masses on judicious use of power supply so that the power department can function effectively.

Representatives from the Ao Senden, Watsu Mungdang, AKM and also from the Urban Electricity Management Board and Village Electricity Management Board also spoke at the programme.

Earlier, the Chairperson of the Mokokchung District Coordination Committee on Power, Muroho Chotso who is also the deputy commissioner of Mokokchung delivered the ‘preludial address’. The meeting was chaired by NERC secretary, P Sani while SAC, NERC member M Bendangnukshi welcome the participants.
