New Accountant General of Nagaland calls for progress

Kohima, May 15 (MExN): The Mao Union, Kohima held a programme in honour of Athikho Chalai, the new Accountant General (A&E) of Nagaland on May 12 at its community hall in Kohima. The programme was chaired by K. Losü, Auditor of MUK. The well attended programme started with an invocation prayer by Rev Losü, Pastor of the Mao Baptist Church Kohima. This was followed by introduction of the dignitaries present on the occasion which included high ranking government officials from the central/state as well as Para military services.

MUK President, Loli Athikho in his welcome address expressed happiness at the presence of someone like Athikho Chalai in the Mao community and stated that it was a blessing from God that the community also had a good number of officers both in the central government/para military services and in multinational companies.

A traditional song was presented by the Lerie women group. Short speeches were also delivered by Ashikho Daili, former President of the MUK and Mikrüo, AAO (Audit), AG’s office Kohima.

The Accountant General of Nagaland, Athikho Chalai in his speech thanked MUK for felicitating him and his wife and said that he felt humbled and honored by such a gesture. He urged upon the MUK members and the community in general to become progressive and highlighted the fact that, members from the Mao community occupy many respectable posts in almost all the departments in the central government services.

He stressed on positivism and optimism. Chalai, citing an example said that, “to judge a fish by its quality to climb a tree would appear to be a rather foolish judgment and that according to Albert Einstein, everybody is a genius and all individuals have inherent positive qualities.” He also appealed for the gathering to always remain as good citizens and requested them to remember him in prayer. The programme concluded with a benediction prayer by Dominic, Catechist of St. Peter’s Church, Kohima. This was stated in a release issued by MUK General Secretary, D. Neli.
