A new office complex to accommodate all the Nagaland Public Works Department (PWD) Offices at Dimapur under one roof was inaugurated on December 12. Created during the inception of Nagaland State, the PWD Offices were all scattered within the PWD Colony at Dimapur.
The PWD Office Complex, a three-storey building with a plinth area space of 2802.18 sqm is constructed to provide Offices to the following: Roads & Bridges Division & Sub-Divisional Office, Housing Divisions & Sub-Divisional Offices, National Highway Sub-Division, and Mechanical Sub-Division. It is located at Midland Colony near Little Star Hr Sec School, Dimapur.
Presenting a technical report, Er Talimeren Aier, Chief Engineer, PWD (Housing) informed that the project commenced on May 16, 2011 and completed on June 14, 2017. The original estimated amount was Rupees 7,43,47,000 and Estimated amount came to a total of 8,68,38,000. He stated that the proposed estimated cost of PWD office Complex at Dimapur was framed and Government had approved for construction of the Offices for smooth functioning and for better services to the public.
He further informed that provision of Superintending Engineer Office has been kept in anticipation of post creation of SE, Circle at Dimapur, while Research Laboratory Cell (RLC) Division is not included in this Complex as the existing/present office is suitable for necessary laboratory tests.
Parliamentary Secretary for Housing Department, Er Levi Rengma unveiled the plaque during the inaugural function held today. He also supported the concept of having a combined office because this would foster a feeling of togetherness of all the workers under different divisions but one department. He also pointed out that the creation of a new complex with modern amenities was setup so that the employees of the department could offer time and sincere work to the public. “We want to see that your output is double. Let us not hear any more complaints from people that there is nobody in the office when we go to the PWD department,” he remarked.
Er Krosu Rhetso, Chief Engineer, PWD (R&B), at the inaugural function remarked that the Office Complex was one of the best which has come up. He urged the staff of PWD department to put in more effort and work hard so that the denizens of Dimapur appreciate the service of the department towards the State. “Engineers are supposed to be the planners, designers, managers, and builders of society so one must do their duty and justice to their work. I request all the department staff to kindly rethink and ask yourselves- do I deserve my salary and have I earned it?” he posed a challenge.
In a personal note, Contractor Hinoto Chophi stated, “The multi office complex started in the year 2011 and it took us some time to complete it. The slight delay was due to shortage of funds. We have tried our best to give quality work, which I’m sure will be judged by one and all. We Nagas have hardly any sense of belonging but with passage of time, things have changed and I’m sure we will take good care of this new office complex and other few assets we have in our State. I thank the Chief Minister and Parliamentary Secretary for their timely release of all payments.”
The inaugural function was chaired by Bendangkokba, IAS, Commissioner & Secretary (W&H). Invocation prayer was stated by Rev. L Hevuto Awomi, Executive Secretary, UBCANEI. Er H.Kahuto Sumi, Addl. Chief Engineer, PWD (Housing) proposed the vote of thanks.
