
Dimapur, June 29 (MExN): A new St. Peter’s Convent was blessed and inaugurated on June 29 in Tesophenynu by the Bishop of Kohima, Rev. Dr. James Thoppil in the presence of Priests and Sisters, Public Leaders, Teachers, Parents, Students, other invited guests and well-wishers.
The day coincided with the Church Feast under the patronage of St. Peter. Bishop James celebrated the Holy Eucharist at St. Peter’s Church, with 7 priests as concelebrants and the faithful, informed a press release received here.
During his homily, the Bishop highlighted the personalities of Saints Paul and Peter to draw the significance of the feast and noted that both were two leaders who guided the early Church, it said.
Rev. Thoppil further said that St. Peter kept the Church united which was growing rapidly in the years following the Pentecost and St. Paul preached to the Non-Jews to give Jesus to them. Both kept the church united and strong in faith, it added.
While blessing the newly built convent, the Bishop James also called upon the gathering to be ever grateful to for the generosity of many people who sacrificed their comfort to make this convent building, the release further informed.
He also lauded Frs. Joy, Manoj, George Punnolil, Jose Sebastian and Binoyfor their committed contribution for the completion of the building and also appreciated the interest and cooperation the area leaders and community put in for the developmental work in the center, it said.
The Bishop also commended on the sacrifice made by the Sisters in the diocese and urged the community to take good care of the Sisters for the selfless service they render, it added.
Rev. Sr. Sibia SABS, the Provincial Superior, who cut the ribbon and inaugurated the building, also thanked the Bishop, Fathers, Sisters and the community members for their role in making the convent building a reality, the release said.
Earlier, Fr. Manoj, the Centre In-charge, accorded the words of welcome in the church and new convent building and wished the community happy feast and blessing of the Lord, it added. Representatives from various other Catholic Communities and churches also attended the function which ended with a common meal after the ceremony
