New High Tension power line to be installed in Mkg Town

MOKOKCHUNG, SEPTEMBER 23 (MExN): The Nagaland State Power Department is working on installing a High Tension (HT) power line along the arterial road of Mokokchung town (AM Road and IM Road).

HT lines are used to transmit higher voltages (11kV,33kV,66kV,110kV etc) to large distances.

Preliminary work for the same has already been completed, informed a press release from the Mokokchung Chamber of Commerce and Industries (MCCI).

It called upon all stakeholders and the public to cooperate with the department for the line’s smooth and timely installation. The MCCI particularly requested the PWDN (NH), Urban Development Department, the Mokokchung Municipal Council and all other line departments to cooperate with the Power Department on this matter. It further asked the All Ward Union Mokokchung and the citizens of Mokokchung town to render all possible assistance.

“MCCI has been pursuing this matter with the department concerned since March 2017 and we would like to put on record our sincere appreciation to the power department for their positive consideration. The town caters not only Mokokchung, but also the adjoining districts of Tuensang and Zunheboto,” it stated.

It therefore asserted that the need for adequate, stable and quality power supply becomes ever essential for enabling the desired socio-economic development and growth.

The MCCI meanwhile pointed out that in Mokokchung town, most commercial and low level LT Industrial activities are concentrated along NH2 (AM Road and IM Road) passing through the heart of the town.

In the absence of any HT (11KV) line along the main town road, the entire power requirement for domestic, commercial and LT industrial purposes are solely dependent on the existing public distribution transformers (DTs), it observed.

As result of this, the MCCI stated that most of the transformers get overloaded/burdened and are unable to cater the required power demand for the business activities/establishments and domestic supply – the symptoms of which are low voltage (quality) and power outages (unstable power supply).

With the installation of the proposed HT power line using high clearance electric poles, the MCCI hoped that business houses can install their own distribution transformers to meet their power requirements thereby not only alleviating the inconvenience caused to the domestic line consumers but also lightening the burden on daily fuse wire replacement for the power department.

“The proposed HT Line will also usher in a cleaner skyline for beautification of the town as the existing cobweb like LT lines across the roads can also be shifted to the new line,” it added.

Urges setting up of food safety lab
In a separate press release, the MCCI urged the Department of Health and Family Welfare to install a Food Testing Lab in Mokokchung.

It stated that owing to lack of a Food Testing Lab in Mokokchung, traders and the public “face untold hardship” especially during unforeseen emergencies. It pointed out that several food and consumable items are flooding the market that may not be meeting the norms set by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) but are not regulated owing to the lack of a food testing lab in Mokokchung. Moreover, local entrepreneurs engaged in the production of processed and packaged food items and food business operators are also compelled to market their products without proper tests for the same reason.

The MCCI said that installation of such a lab will not only serve Mokokchung but also the neighbouring districts of Tuensang, Zunheboto, Longleng and Mon.

The MCCI meanwhile said it is willing to assist and cooperate with the government in any manner pertaining to the subject cited above.

It further appreciated the District Planning and Development Board of Mokokchung for taking cognizance of the need for a Food Testing Lab in Mokokchung and hoped that this much needed lab will be installed at the earliest possible time.
