New ROB at Gauripur to ease congestion, improve safety: NFR

Maligaon, March 22 (MExN): The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has completed the construction of a Road Over Bridge (ROB) at Gauripur under the Alipurduar Division, replacing Level Crossing Gate.

The project, which marks a significant boost to rail-road infrastructure in the region, was executed by NFR Construction and completed within the planned timeframe, according to a release issued by the NFR.

The ROB has been built between Gauripur and Alamganj stations at km 162/5-6, spanning a total length of 940 metres. Designed to National Highway standards, it features a 10.50-metre-wide carriageway accommodating three lanes to facilitate smooth vehicular movement. The structure includes a 62-metre bow string girder as its main span, reflecting modern engineering practices.

The bridge replaces the busy Level Crossing Gate No. CA-26, which recorded a high Train Vehicle Unit (TVU) of 69,840, indicating heavy movement of both rail and road traffic. The site lies along a state highway connecting Gauripur and Dhubri, making it a crucial link for regional connectivity.

With the commissioning of the ROB, delays caused by frequent gate closures have been eliminated, ensuring uninterrupted movement for vehicles and pedestrians.

The development is also expected to enhance safety by reducing the risk of accidents at the crossing.

The NFR stated that the project would help save travel time, reduce fuel consumption and provide a boost to local trade and economic activity in the region.

It further reiterated its commitment to modernising infrastructure and improving safety and convenience for both rail users and the public.
