NF Railway awards five staff for ‘exceptional devotion’ to duty

  Guwahati, May 1 (MExN): Five railway staff – Surendra Kumar (Gateman), Suman Bhowmik (Guard), PK Sarkar-II (Loco Pilot), Abhijit Dhar (Senior Asst Loco Pilot), and Jayanta Barman (Track Maintainer) – were awarded by Sanjive Roy, General Manager, NF Railway for showing “exceptional devotion” towards duty.   On March 30, PK Sarkar-II and Abhijit Dhar while working on train no. 12502 UP from New Jalpaiguri to Guwahati felt jerk at KM 109/2-3 in face of Torsa bridge (Br.No-116) between Ghoksadanga – Sajerpar stations. They immediately slowed down the speed of the train and stopped the train at Sajerpar against through pass signals without clearing fouling mark and served memo to Station Master of Ghoksadanga, said a press release from Chief Public Relations Officer, NF Railway. Sectional Permanent Way Engineer attended the site and imposed speed restriction, thus averting possible mishaps.   Jayanta Barman also averted a probable mishap on March 24. While working as Keyman of Gang No. 55, he detected a rail fracture at KM 348/9 – 349/0 between Nalbari – Ghograpar stations and immediately managed to control UP NLP Salt goods train in block section with proper protection and informed officials at Ghograpar Station, the release informed.   Meanwhile, on March 22, Surendra Kumar, Gateman of Level Crossing No –NC – 48 (Engg)/ Katihar noticed smoke coming out from under gear of Loco No - 16575 of 13142 DN. He immediately indicated to the Loco Pilot to stop the train, which was controlled in mid section. The fire was extinguished and the traction motor isolated.   On March 21, Suman Bhowmik while working by train No- 12506 UP felt jerk at KM 93/2-3 between Falakata – Gumanihat near NN-49. He immediately informed Station Master of Falakata. Sectional Permanent Way Engineer attended and imposed 30 kmph speed restriction.   In recognition of their meritorious service for preventing mishaps/accidents, all of them were awarded with a cash award of Rs. 2,500 each along with a certificate, the release said.
