Dimapur, January 29 (MExN): Saikhom Mirabai Chanu, who has brought laurels to NF Railway by being selected the 'Padma Shri' Award in sports discipline for the year 2018, was felicitated by NFR General Manager Chahatey Ram on January 28. ‘Padma Shri,’ one of the highest civilian Awards of the country awarded for distinguished service in various fields, was announced on Republic Day 2018. Chanu, who joined NFR on August 31, 2015, is presently working as Senior Ticket Collector in Lumding division, informed a press release from its Chief Public Relations Officer PJ Sharma. She is the 2nd player from India to have won Gold medal in the World Weight Lifting Championship 2017 held at USA after a gap of 22 years (after Karnam Maleswari in 1994 & 1995), it added. She also has several Gold medals in National and International level in her kitty. The award will be conferred to her by the President of India at ceremonial function to be held at Rashtrapati Bhawan later this year.
