NF Railway helps passengers through helpline

Maligaon, April 27 (MExN): Indian Railway’s toll free security helpline number 182 is actively assisting passengers in need of help. The helpline is active 24x7 throughout Indian Railway for rendering any type of security related help to train passengers.   During the period from January to March, 2018, about 50 complaints were received through the helpline number in NF Railway, informed a press release from Pranav Jyoti Sharma, Chief Public Relations Officer, NF Railway.   Of these, 31 complaints were related to theft of mobile phones, purse, bag etc. In 26 of the 31 cases, passengers were rendered immediate help to lodge FIR with Government Railway Police, the release said. While assistance was provided in 19 other cases related to disturbance/ harassment of passengers, there were also cases of providing emergency medical help, rescue of kidnapped minor boy, recovery of left behind luggage etc.   The release mentioned that within NF Railway, any call made to the toll free number is received by the concerned Divisional Security Control within whose jurisdiction the area falls. Immediate assistance is provided by informing the nearest available Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel to attend the location. One can even lodge FIR on any incident by using the helpline number at ease.   Teams of RPF attend to the complainant in the train itself and they are not required to deboard from the train for lodging FIR etc. All divisions have set up fully equipped control rooms for constant monitoring of incoming calls in the number, according to the release.   In order to popularise the helpline among passengers, NF Railway has taken up various measures like staging Nukkad Nataks, pasting stickers in coaches etc.
