NF Railway’s first lift installed in Tinsukia

MALIGAON, SEPTEMBER 21 (MExN): The Tinsukia Division of the Northeast Frontier Railways commissioned a lift in Tinsukia Station on September 21.   A press release from the NF Railways informed that the lift was inaugurated by Kamakhya Prasad Teli, Member of Parliament, Dibrugarh; and Sanjoy Kishan, Member of Legislative Assembly, Tinsukia in the presence of Divisional Railway Manager, Tinsukia, Ram Bahadur Rai.   Lifts and escalators are being provided in important railway stations for the convenience of passengers as per policy of the Ministry of Railway.  This lift in Tinsukia Station is the first of a series of lifts & escalators which are being planned for commissioning in different stations in NF Railway.   With a height of 7 meters and a capacity of 13 passengers (884 kgs), the lift has been commissioned near PRS cum UTS at Tinsikia railway station.   In Tinsukia railway station, the passengers can reach platform No. 1 & 2 only after getting up through the Foot Over Bridge, as there is no direct entrance to the platform from main road end.  This causes inconvenience for aged persons and differently abled persons to access the platforms.  Installation of the lift has made very convenient for the aged and differently abled passengers to to access the platforms.   Automatic Rescue Device (ARD) has been facilitated in this lift whose function is that in times of power failure or DG supply failure, the lift will come back to ground floor or 1st floor (at FOB) by backup system itself.   The lift is manufactured by M/s Johnsons Lifts Pvt. Ltd. at approximate cost of Rs.51 lakhs.   NF Railway plans to install 43 such lifts in stations all over the zone.
