NFHRCC updates on progress of Foothill Road

DIMAPUR, SEPTEMBER 20 (MExN): The Nagaland Foothill Road Coordination Committee (NFHRCC) held a meeting on September 19 and updated on the progress of the road works till now, while seeking cooperation from all stakeholders.

The meeting acknowledged the Government of Nagaland for funding the project to the tune of Rs 6,700 lakhs under SPA during 2013-14 and 2014-15 including construction of a 2 lane 134.80 m span RCC Bridge over Doyang River at Governor’s Camp, Liphanyan. It informed that due to various reasons including the discontinuation of SPA, the contractor had temporarily suspended the work in 2017-18, the work was resumed in October 2018 and the work is in progress with the completion of 68.72 % of works up till now.

A press release from the NFHRCC Convener, Supu Jamir; General Secretary, W Lemba Chang; and Assistant General Secretary, Chenithung Humtsoe further noted that the Government of Nagaland has rechristened the Foothill Road into a Mega Trans Nagaland Expressway, for which the DPR was approved by the MoRTH and the final declaration is awaited from the Prime Minister’s Office. 

The NFHRCC also acknowledged the CE, PWD (R&B), Er Limanaro for her “prompt response as appealed   in furnishing the detailed proposals to the State Government to make the erstwhile Foothill Road motorable before the mega project starts as desired by the Naga public.

The committee meanwhile decided to meet the Nagaland CM and Deputy CM  soon after they return from New Delhi for consultation on the issue of the motorable Foothill Road.

It requested village council authorities and various local area organisations in the vicinity of the Foothill Roads to cooperate and assist the NFHRCC members as they will be visiting the entire stretch on a sector wise basis within this coming week.
