NFR attends meeting on plastic waste management

Maligaon, July 23 (MExN): Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) held a collaborative meeting with officials from the Assam State Pollution Control Board (PCBA) and representatives of M/s KusumUdyog, Rangia, a PCBA-approved recycling agency. The meeting, chaired by NFR Chief Mechanical Engineer M Kalimuthy, focused on initiatives to make Guwahati Railway Station the first plastic-free railway station in India.

The PCBA-approved recycler M/s Kusum Udyog will submit a detailed proposal for handling, cleaning and transporting plastic waste to authorised recycling units. The initiative includes operational checks on Effluent Treatment Plants and Sewage Treatment Plants, along with public awareness campaigns through street plays and placards by NFR Scouts and Guides. The PCBA commended NFR's efforts and assured technical support for implementing eco-friendly alternatives.

As the busiest rail hub in Northeast India, Guwahati station handles over 100 daily trains including premium services like Rajdhani Express and Vande Bharat Express, making it a priority location for sustainable railway operations.
