Maligaon, March 28 (MExN): Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has achieved significant milestones in railway electrification during the financial year 2025–26, completing 1342.18 Route Kilometres (RKM) and 1828.42 Track Kilometres (TKM) across its network.

The electrification drive, aligned with Indian Railways’ vision of achieving 100 per cent carbon emission reduction and enhancing operational efficiency, covered key sections across Assam, West Bengal, Bihar, Tripura and Arunachal Pradesh, strengthening connectivity in the Northeast and adjoining regions.

Division-wise, Tinsukia (TSK) Division emerged as the top performer, contributing 663.59 RKM and 855.48 TKM—nearly half of the total electrification achieved during the year. Key routes electrified in this division include Mariani-Simaluguri, Simaluguri-Dibrugarh, Duliajan-New Tinsukia and North Lakhimpur-Dhamalgaon, which are vital for passenger and freight movement in Upper Assam.

Rangiya (RNY) Division recorded the second-highest progress with 348.92 RKM and 535.43 TKM, covering strategic sections such as Rangapara-Harmuty and Harmuty-Naharlagun, thereby improving connectivity to Arunachal Pradesh.

Lumding (LMG) Division electrified 124.70 RKM and 197.38 TKM, including the crucial Agartala-Sabroom section in Tripura, enhancing connectivity in the southern part of the Northeast.

Katihar (KIR) Division completed electrification of 108.62 RKM and 130.83 TKM, while Alipurduar (APDJ) Division contributed 96.36 RKM and 109.30 TKM, covering important sections in Bihar and North Bengal.

The electrification of these routes is expected to enable faster train operations, reduce dependence on fossil fuels, lower maintenance costs and improve environmental sustainability. It will also enhance line capacity, punctuality and reliability of train services across the region.

With this achievement, NFR has cumulatively electrified approximately 4170.19 RKM and 6690.38 TKM to date. The railway zone remains committed to completing electrification across its network as part of Indian Railways’ mission to achieve 100 per cent electrification of its broad gauge routes.
