Kohima, March 26 (MExN): The General Manager of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR), Chetan Kumar Shrivastava, conducted a multi-location inspection across sections of the Lumding Division on March 24 to review infrastructure development, safety systems and passenger amenities.
According to a press release, the inspection began from Kamakhya and covered key locations including Lumding, Diphu and Barpathar. Senior officials from NFR Headquarters and divisional authorities accompanied the General Manager during the visit.
At Lumding, the GM reviewed the proposed Loco Mid-life Rehabilitation Project at the relief yard, aimed at improving locomotive efficiency and long-term sustainability. A speed trial conducted between Bokajan and Barpathar over a 31.3 km stretch achieved speeds up to 120 kmph while adhering to safety norms.
At Diphu, the inspection focused on passenger-centric and safety initiatives. The Electronic Interlocking Double Section system between Diphu and Daldali was reviewed, along with CCTV surveillance systems to strengthen station security. A newly constructed Road Under Bridge replacing Level Crossing Gate No. ST-58 was also inspected to improve safety and ease congestion.
At Barpathar, the GM inspected track infrastructure and observed demonstrations of data and voice recording systems at level crossing gates. Components including Points and Crossings, Long Welded Rails and Switch Expansion Joints were examined. He also interacted with field staff and stressed the need for safety, efficiency and teamwork.
The inspection further covered bridges, including Bridge No. 331, and the review of advanced safety mechanisms such as pre-warning systems at unmanned crossings and trolley-mounted greasing systems. Ongoing projects in the Lumding Division were also assessed, including a review at Jamuguri.
The release stated that the inspection was part of NFR’s efforts to strengthen modernization, safety standards and passenger services through continuous monitoring and infrastructure upgrades.
