MALIGAON, JUNE 25 (MExN): The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) is carrying out restoration work on a war footing to resume train services in the Lumding–Badarpur Hill section, where rail connectivity has been severely disrupted due to a major landslide.
The incident, triggered by continuous heavy rainfall, affected approximately 100 metres of railway track following the failure of a slope near an adjacent road just 15 metres from the railway line.
A press statement issued by NFR informed that despite intensive efforts for restoration, challenges persist due to the slow and continuous movement of loose soil from the hillside, compounded by ongoing rainfall. Officials have prioritised stabilisation of the hill slope, which will be followed by the removal of an estimated 25,000 cubic metres of muck and debris from both the railway track and the vulnerable hillside above. Protective measures will be implemented thereafter to ensure long-term safety and slope stability.
