NFR records 8.6% growth in freight loading in April

Maligaon, May 9 (MExN): Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) recorded significant growth in freight loading during April 2026, registering a total freight loading of 0.972 million tonnes (MT), an increase of 8.6 per cent compared to the corresponding period last year.

In a statement issued on May 9, NFR said the achievement reflects its continued commitment towards efficient freight operations and timely transportation of essential commodities.

Among the key commodities, cement loading registered an exceptional growth of 329 per cent, while coal loading increased by 141.7 per cent over the same period last year. Dolomite loading also recorded a growth of 20.7 per cent.

Loading under the “Others” category, comprising miscellaneous commodities, witnessed a substantial rise of 190 per cent, indicating enhanced movement of construction-related and allied materials across the region.

According to NFR, the steady rise in freight loading highlights growing economic and industrial activities across the Northeast and adjoining areas.

The railway zone stated that the sustained growth has strengthened the regional supply chain network and contributed significantly to the revenue earnings of the Northeast Frontier Railway.

NFR further said it would continue focusing on technological advancements, operational efficiency and customer-centric freight services to ensure reliable transportation and sustained growth in freight movement in the coming months.
