Maligaon, March 30 (MExN): Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has introduced an advanced Optical Fibre Cable (OFC)-based integrated voice-cum-data communication system at level crossing (LC) gates to enhance safety and operational efficiency.

The system is being implemented across 50 LC gates using Indian Railways’ OFC network, ensuring reliable and uninterrupted communication between station masters and gate operators.

It has already been installed at Senchoa and Barpathar stations, connecting both non-interlocked and interlocked gates. With the new system, station masters can monitor real-time gate status, including opening and closing, directly from the station master’s room, improving coordination and control.

The system is equipped with high-quality voice communication, integrated voice logging, IP-based public address system and CCTV integration, enabling both audio and visual monitoring of LC gates. Features include single-touch calling, group communication and battery health monitoring.

An AI-enabled noise filtering feature at the master console removes ambient sounds such as train horns and announcements during critical operations.

Additionally, it allows centralised monitoring of LC gate cameras and supports public announcements through IP-based PA units installed at gate locations.

The initiative underscores NFR’s commitment to leveraging modern technology for improved safety, communication and efficient railway operations, particularly at vulnerable level crossings.
