NFR speeds up 35 trains, cuts travel time by 675 minutes

Maligaon, March 27 (MExN): The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has increased the speed of 35 trains across its network during 2025-26, resulting in a cumulative saving of 675 minutes in travel time, officials said.

The initiative has led to an average reduction of about 19.29 minutes per train, covering daily, weekly and bi-weekly services connecting key destinations.

Among major improvements, the New Jalpaiguri–Bongaigaon Express, Howrah–Guwahati Saraighat Express and Dibrugarh–Deoghar Express have recorded time savings of up to 60 minutes, 30 minutes and 90 minutes respectively.

Several congested routes have also been optimised through higher sectional speeds, improved scheduling and infrastructure upgrades, reflecting NFR’s focus on modernising operations and enhancing network efficiency.

Officials said faster services would improve passenger convenience, reliability and connectivity, while enabling better utilisation of rolling stock, improved turnaround time and overall operational efficiency.

The initiative is part of NFR’s efforts to provide faster, safer and more efficient rail services, with continued focus on infrastructure upgrades and technological advancement.
