Maligaon, March 7 (MExN): The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) recorded sustained freight performance in February 2026, unloading 1,191 freight rakes across its zone, registering a 4.7% increase compared to 1,137 rakes unloaded in February 2025.

The consignments included food grains, fertilisers, cement, coal and other goods, which were handled at various goods sheds across the zone to maintain steady supply and operational reliability, informed a press release from the NFR.

A major share of the freight movement was directed towards meeting the requirements of the North-East states with Assam accounting for the unloading of 655 rakes, including 308 rakes carrying essential commodities.

During the same period, 85 rakes were unloaded in Tripura, 17 in Nagaland, nine in Arunachal Pradesh, 16 in Manipur, one in Meghalaya and seven in Mizoram.

Within the NFR jurisdiction, West Bengal recorded the unloading of 222 rakes, while Bihar accounted for 179 rakes, consisting of both essential and industrial commodities, contributing to the strengthening of inter-regional supply chains.

The movement of essential commodities and industrial goods remains critical for meeting public demand and supporting economic activities across the region, the release said.

The NFR stated that through close monitoring and coordinated efforts by its field units, it has improved turnaround time and unloading efficiency and expressed its commitment to maintain reliable freight operations in the region.
