
Kohima, April 15 (MExN): Nagaland Users’ Network (NUN) in collaboration with Kripa Foundation and Treatment Action Group, New York, conducted sensitization programmes on tuberculosis at Kripa drop-in-centres at D’ Block and PR Hill in Kohima on April 12 and 15 respectively.
The programmes targeted participants particularly from the drug users’ community and NGOs, according to a press release from Renbonthung Tungoe, NUN Advocacy Officer, who facilitated in both the programmes. The objective of the programme was to sensitize and empower the drug users’ community and PLHIVs to seriously consider tuberculosis as a great concern and prioritize screening and treatment of the disease, the release added.
In both the programmes, the nature of TB, its routes of transmission, signs and symptoms, preventive measures, various types of TB were highlighted. Participants were also provided information on the various categories of treatment required to treat them, side effects of the drugs and the provisions available in the government health set ups to treat the disease were also highlighted.
The participants also discussed some of the key concerns under the RNTCP program like the absence of proper infrastructure for diagnostics and treatment related supports. They brought out the issues, gaps and inadequacy of the treatment services available in government set ups, which is of concern especially for the patients on treatment and people in general, the release stated, adding the government needs to seriously look into the issues.
