NH 29 Rockslide: Patkai Bridge-Kukidolong stretch to remain closed till further order

In view of the heavy rockslides on the New Chümoukedima segment of National Highway 29 on Tuesday morning, the district administration Dimapur has ordered total restriction of all movement with “immediate effect till further order.”

“In view of heavy rockslides between Chumukedima Police Check Post till New Chumukedima village the road from Chathe River Bridge (Patkai Bridge) to Kukidolong is hereby closed with immediate effect till further order,” stated on order issued by the Deputy Commissioner, Dimapur. 

“The total restriction of all movement is necessitated as a precautionary measure to prevent any injury, loss of life and damage to property,” it said.

The segment was hit by another rockslide, sometime after 10:00 am, approximately 1.5km from the Chümoukedima police check post towards Kukidolong, on February 2.

The Morung Express had earlier reported that boulders, loosened by explosives on a cliff, running some 100m across, dislodged blocking the highway.

Four vehicles got caught in the avalanche of huge rock debris, injuring three persons. One was a woman and the other two men. Their conditions were still to be ascertained.

The damaged vehicles included a Mahindra Bolero, Mahindra pickup, Gypsy and Wagon-R.

Meanwhile, in an traffic update on Twitter, the Dimapur Police also informed that the road stretch from Chümoukedima police check post to TL Park area on NH29 will be closed indefinitely for vehicle traffic till debris is cleared completely at the rock slide affected area.

“General public may take the alternative route from Dimapur-Kohima/Kohima-Dimapur for light vehicles only via 7th Mile - New DC office - Shokhuvi - Razaphe-Mhaikam - Pimla -Mhainamtsi - Jhomapani/Medziphema and vice versa. All concerned may take note of the same for necessary action,” the DC's order further stated.
