Tobu, March 28 (MExN): The Annual Sports and Games Meet 2026 of Newman Higher Secondary School (NHSS), Tobu commenced with enthusiasm on March 26 at the school ground, with Extra Assistant Commissioner (EAC) Tobu, Er Mhao Humtsoe, gracing the occasion as Special Guest.
Addressing the gathering, the Special Guest underscored the importance of physical fitness through active participation in sports and urged students to maintain discipline for building successful careers, while also stressing the need for a balanced life.
The three-day event will see participation from students representing four school houses, competing for the overall championship title. Competitions include football, volleyball, basketball, kabaddi, kho-kho, along with various individual track and field events, with over a hundred students showcasing their athletic abilities.
Earlier, the programme began with a prayer dance by junior girls, followed by a welcome song by Class XII students. Principal Rev Fr Kevishi Solomon welcomed the gathering and highlighted the role of sports in fostering discipline and teamwork.
The event also featured synchronised aerobics and drill displays by students from junior, sub-junior and primary sections, followed by a grand parade comprising eight contingents representing the four houses. A performance by young artist Clement Kaibo added vibrancy to the programme.
The meet was formally declared open by the Special Guest. The programme, chaired by Ranita Mola, concluded with a vote of thanks by Yenso. Around 500 spectators, including parents, well-wishers and invited guests, attended the opening ceremony.
