NISC ‘surprised’ by former activists in poll fray

Dimapur, February 26 (MExN): The Amsterdam based Naga International Support Center (NISC) wonders that what is going on in Nagaland with regard to the coming elections ‘defies imagination’ and that those taking part i.e contesting the polls, are doing so by taking oath of allegiance under the Constitution of India. “All those taking part thus adhere to this constitution and tantamount to saying they are part of the Union of India”, the NISC stated.

In this regard, the NISC expressed surprise that among those contestants former activists, those who “celebrated the burning of Bedrock of Society written by the admirer of Jawarhlal Nehru S.C. Jamir” were among those contesting the present election and referred to NSN Lotha, Vikheho Swu and Achumbemo Kikon.

The NISC pointed out that these former activists who were once fierce upholders of human rights along with the Naga Student Federation leaders, have now yielded to the whims of the Government of India. “Or is it that these well-known men through the move they made will contribute to unity, reconciliation so the Nagas will be set free? Is it that these men think that the cause is lost and it is better to garner a good position in the Nagaland set up which, if the voices and defenders of sovereignty for the Nagas will have their way, will be declared null and void, nonexistent?” the NISC questioned. As such, the NISC has called on men like Vikheho Swu and NSN Lotha to rethink their sense of representation of the Naga peoples.
