The National Institute of Technology (NIT) Nagaland, the State’s sole Institute of National Importance and Patkai Christian College (Autonomous), the first autonomous of the North-East, entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on October 7 for academic co-operation and collaboration.
The agreement was inked during the PCC ‘Science Exhibition 2022’ inaugural programme-cum-MoU Signing Ceremony with NIT held here today at Bundrock Chapel cum Auditorium, Patkai.
The MoU was exchange with Principal Dr Thepfuvilie Pierü and Dr Reingamla Tetso, Dean of Sciences representing Patkai and Dr Themrichon Tuithung, Professor Department of Computer Science and Engineering and Nosekhol Albert Khizho, Registrar of NIT.
Conducting the signing ceremony, PCC Vice Principal Angel Sonari expressed hope that the agreement would benefit both the institutes immensely while Prof Tuithung said she looks forward to the MoU to ‘really benefits to the future generations.’
Among others, the MoU stated that the two institutions will “establish channels of communication and co-operation” with the objective advancing respective operations within the institution and its related wings.
It also entails keeping each other informed of “potential opportunities” and to “exchange appropriate information that may be relevant to secure additional opportunities benefiting each other.”
The MoU also include effective utilisation of the each other’s intellectual capabilities, technical knowledge and resources and develop suitable environment for advanced education, training and carrying out R&D in the every growing ICT domain.
The PCC and NIT will jointly create a collaboration framework that will cover technology-sharing feeds, academic needs, knowledge-transfer, exchange-programmes, joint brain storming sessions and a variety of mutually agreed mechanisms and means, it added.
To target is to “maintain cutting-edge proficiency in the area of IT and Electronics on par with the rest of the country and world.”
Accordingly, another scope of the MoU is for customising the curriculum to ensure that the students in both institutions are ‘industry ready and academically strong.’
It also envisages ‘skill development programmes,’ including training students on the emerging technologies in order to bridge the skill gap and meet the demands of the industry.
Further, the two institutes agree to offer faculty exchange & faculty development programmes as per requirement or need basis.
It also included exchange programmes for the purpose of internships to gain ‘academic knowledge, research interests and practical experience on emerging technologies.’
Exploring opportunities to set up state-of-the-art laboratories for research and development activities in the emerging areas of IT and electronics was another scope of the MoU.
The MoU will be effective up to five years from the date of signing, and may be extended further by mutual consent.
