The quarterfinal lineup for the Dr. T. Ao Trophy 2024 is set, with teams from Niuland, Phek, Peren, Zunheboto, Tuensang, Mokokchung, Mon, and Noklak advancing after the league stage concluded. The final day of matches saw standout performances, including Tuensang’s decisive 2-0 victory over Mokokchung to secure the top spot in Group C.
Tuensang’s goals came from Tsalichem just before halftime and Bapen Yimjong in the 60th minute, ensuring they remain the only team in the tournament yet to concede a goal. Tuensang will face Noklak in the quarterfinals on September 24.
In a match between two eliminated teams, Longleng delivered an impressive 7-1 win over Kiphire. Shepa and Ngamsang Phom scored two goals each, while Chongshen Sangba Chang, Pongnyei Phom, and Shamlau M. Konyak added to the tally. Kiphire’s sole goal was scored by Pewsuthong in the 37th minute.
Noklak secured their quarterfinal spot with a 4-0 victory over Tseminyu. Captain Longkhoi netted a hat trick with goals in the 12th, 16th, and 41st minutes. Thangsoi opened the scoring early in the 7th minute, setting the tone for a comfortable win.
Mon also advanced with a 4-0 win over Wokha, thanks to a pair of goals from Amun Munshaham, followed by two more from Manton. Mon will now face Mokokchung in the quarterfinals.
The quarterfinal matchups on September 24 will see Niuland take on Zunheboto, Phek go up against Peren, Tuensang face Noklak, and Mokokchung battle Mon. With the competition heating up, fans are eagerly anticipating the next round of Nagaland’s premier football tournament.
