NLA, others pay tributes to late Yollow Konyak

Dimapur/Kohima, March 23 (MExN): Condolences for late YM Yollow Konyak continued to pour-in on Thursday from across the State as various political leaders, organisations and others paid tribute to the departed leader. 

The former Nagaland Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) and Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change passed away on March 22 in Delhi after a prolonged illness. Konyak was elected twice to NLA from 42 Wakching Assembly Constituency under Mon district.

14th NLA: The 14th Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA) paid tribute to former MLA and Minister on Thursday and members observed a minute of silence for the departed soul.  

Delivering the obituary reference at NLA Secretariat, Speaker, Sharingain Longkumer termed Konyak’s demise an irreplaceable loss and remembered him as a dedicated leader who worked tirelessly for the welfare of the people. 

The valuable contributions Konyak rendered as a politician and social worker for the cause of the people will always be cherished, he added.  

TR Zeliang: Nagaland Deputy Chief Minister TR Zeliang paid tribute to late Konyak as a man of true grit and courage who stood firm and was decisive in his ways.

“He stood by me through thick and thin and was as much a brother and friend to me always. He minces no words when he spoke and that was an admirable trait,” Zeliang said, further describing late Konyak as “true gentleman who had a deep concern for the welfare of the public.”

 In his demise, the people of Wakching and Konyaks in particular and Nagas in general have lost a great soul, he added. “I along with my family extend deepest condolences to the bereaved family and all his near and dear ones.”

Metsubo Jamir: The Minister Rural Development, Metsubo Jamir, in his condolences, said that late Konyak was not only a colleague but a good friend. Politically and in the government service, we both served in the department of Rural Development for more than fifteen years together, he said. 

Late Konyak was one of my trusted officers whose sincerity and his devotion to his work is still remembered, especially his simplicity, outspokenness and his love for the people, he added. 

His demise will be a great loss to not only his family and his tribe, but to the Naga family as a whole, Jamir said, while conveying his condolences to beraved family members. 

KG Kenye: The Minister of Power & Parliamentary Affairs, KG Kenye called late Konyak a “trustworthy and dedicated public leader who made immense contributions for the welfare of the people in various capacities.”

In his demise, the Naga people had lost a tall leader and a prominent Ex-Parliamentarian. I convey my deepest condolences to the bereaved family members and pray that the Almighty God grant timely solace and comfort to bear the irreparable loss, he added. 

Noke Wangnao: Advisor Department of Social Welfare, Noke Wangnao called late Konyak a ‘dedicated individual whose commitment to the progress of our community knew no bounds.’

 He was truthful, principled as well as a fine gentlemen and his death is a great lost to the Konyak community in particular and Nagas as a whole, he said. 

“The void he leaves behind in his native village, our community and in our state will indeed be difficult. I convey my deepest condolences to the bereaved family and join the rest in prayer for his departed soul to rest in eternal peace,” the Advisor added.

Ex-PAN: The Ex-Parliamentarian's Association of Nagaland (Ex-PAN) also expressed sadness over the demise and noted that late Konyak was always willing and prepared to hold the responsibilities in Government as well as for the welfare of the citizen, particularly his constituency.

Remembering his lifetime achievements, the Association extended its sympathy and shared the pain together with late Konyak’s family.

NGBF: The Nagaland Gaon Bura Federation has expressed shock to learn about the death of Konyak and paid tribute to him as a person of strong personality and a down-to-earth leader. 

“In his demise we lost a leader whose absence will be deeply felt by one and all. We convey our deepest sorrow and heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family,” it added.  

DENSU: The Dimapur Eastern Nagaland Students’ Union called Konyak’s death a “great loss to our eastern family” and said that he contributed his service to the eastern people in particular and Nagas at large to the best of his competence.

He lived a life with a great vision and upright personality, the union conveyed, further extending its deepest condolences to the bereaved family members. 

NDPP: The Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) also paid tribute to late Konyak as a ‘straightforward persons towards those whom he encountered throughout his life.’

As a promising leader his demise is indeed a great loss to not only the Konyak tribe but the Nagas as whole, it said. 
“I, on my own behalf and on behalf of the rank and file of the NDPP convey our sincere condolence to the members of the bereaved family,” conveyed NDPP President Chingwang Konyak in a condolence note.
