
Kohima, March 25 (MExN): Naga Mothers’ Association (NMA) has condemned the harassment meted out to Naga elder citizen, Mhalo Kikon an 80-year-old, and her grand-daughter at the Lopkpriya Gopinath Bordolai International Airport, Guwahati, by the CISF airport security during the process of security of checking.
The NMA has also demanded the public disclosure of the rank and name of the CISF airport security personnel involved, copy of the investigation report and the names of personnel who have been suspended.
The associated stated that the complete violation of the rights of a senior citizen with a titanium hip implant by forcing her to undress indicates total disrespect and racist attitude to a tribal woman. “The harassment to the young grand-daughter by the CISF airport security, in refusing to give her a photocopy of her written complaint has shown the malafide intention of the personnel,” it stated.
NHRC registers case
Meanwhile, the National Human Rights Commission has registered a case against the incident. The case has been registered on the basis of a complaint by human rights activist, Yibeni Humtsoe.
According to an update received here, Yibeni Humtsoe in his complaint has alleged that on March 24, “a 80 year old disabled women from Nagaland was illegally forced to remove all of her clothes, including her underwear and diaper by CISF personnel at Guwahati International Airport and subjected to mental and physical harassment because of negligence and procedural irregularities by the officers of CISF at the Guwahati Airport.”
Humtsoe has sought the intervention of the Commission for violation of Right to Life, Right to Liberty and Right to Dignity of Victim’s lady and sought for monetary compensation. Based on his complaint, NHRC has registered a case, bearing dairy No.4597/IN/2022 and start investigation on the matter, it stated.
