New Market Business Owners’ Association (NMBOA) has made a fervent appeal to the inhabitants of New Market, Dimapur to maintain civic sense in the area for a hygienic environment.
The appeal was made by NMBOA President, Hokivi Chishi on Sunday during drainage cleaning at New Market in collaboration with Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC). During the drain cleaning exercise, it was found that many of the residents were letting out human excreta directly into the drain besides throwing huge solid wastes leading to clogged drains.
In this regard, the NMBOA appealed to the building owners to provide proper toilet facilities with septic tanks in the interest of welfare of the residents in particular and public in general.
The NMBOA has warned of imposing fines which would be followed by locking the buildings if the issue of flushing human excreta into the drain was not looked into at the earliest.
It was also found that unauthorized concrete constructions have come up over drains in the area making it difficult for sanitation workers to clear clogged drains. In this connection, the NMBOA requested the DMC to look into the matter immediately.
Hokivi said that the New Market being a lowland area, all major wastes in the town were flowing into the area because of which it was important for the drainage system there to be free flowing.
He thanked the DMC Administrator, H. Atokhe Aye and his staff for taking initiative in cleaning the drainage and looked forward for more support from the Municipal. “Though Sunday is a holiday, yet the DMC Administrator has shown keen interest in working for the welfare of the people and we profusely thank him for the initiative,” Hokivi added.
