DIMAPUR, MARCH 24 (MExN): The Nagaland Medical Students’ Association (NMSA) has expressed concern at the non issuance of State sponsored Post Graduate Training (PGT) seats for Medical Officers (MOs) of Nagaland in the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal to eligible qualified candidates, despite them having cleared the AIGPMEE.
A press note from the NMSA informed that RIMS has been allocating 7 sponsored PGT seats for Nagaland as NE quota every year in different specialities. However this year, it informed that some MOs who cleared NPSC and AIPGMEE were not allowed for PGT despite availability of sponsored seats at the RIMS, due to certain discrepancies in the criteria for candidature selection. \
Stating that a government notice vide no.cad2/2008 provides certain relaxation of criteria for the same, the NMSA urged the government to ensure that these seats are not wasted.
Stating that the state is lacking in healthcare facilities and manpower, it said that not utilising these opportunity would be a huge loss to the state. Depriving candidates who are willing to take up further studies would deprive the state of quality healthcare, it added.
The NMSA further suggested the possibility of providing access to the sponsored PGT seats for contract doctors, along with necessary and additional criteria for them after completing their PGT course, in the event that there are no candidates available among the regular State MOs.
