NNC (parent body) reminds of the political plight of Nagas

DIMAPUR, DECEMBER 2 (MExN): The NNC (Parent Body), on behalf of the Naga people, welcomed all the dignitaries, foreign delegates and tourists from all around the world coming to Nagaland to celebrate and partake in the Hornbill Festival this year.

At the same time, the NNC also urged all the concerned to remember the political plight of the Nagas, the  suffering and brutality endured for the last 94 years, ever since the submission of political memorandum to the British India to let the Nagas freely enjoy our freedom to govern ourselves in 1929.

Consequently on August 14, 1947 the Naga people under the political banner of “Naga National Council (NNC)” declared Naga independence, and on May 16, 1951 conducted a voluntary plebiscite (referendum), the result of which showed 99.9 percent voted in favour of Naga Independence.

However, these political and democratic rights were and are still being suppressed by the occupiers of Government of India one side and the military junta of Burma (Myanmar) on the other side of the divided land of the Nagas. This is a brief political history and plight of the Naga people, it stated.

In this context, the NNC has appealed to all concerned to speak out and help in bringing about a political settlement on this longest political plight of the Naga people for peace and development come about in the region. This was informed in a press communiqué issued by Information & Publicity Wing, NNC (Parent Body).
