NNPG WC cautions candidates against filing poll nominations

DIMAPUR, JANUARY 30 (MExN): The Naga National Political Group (NNPG) Working Committee in an emergency meeting has resolved that “in order to safeguard the decision and interest of the Naga people, any aspirant who decides to go against the wishes of the people and go for nomination shall be held accountable.”   A press note from the NNPG (WC) said that such people would be “branded as anti-Naga and a traitor.” “At this decisive moment of Naga history the children of such men/women would be marked for generations for the cardinal treachery,” it said.   The NNPG (WC) further cautioned that “any unfortunate turn of event or events due to non compliance of Naga people’s call shall be dealt with by the people themselves.” “None should attempt to sabotage the historical processes of negotiations,” it added. The NNPG (WC) meanwhile appreciated legislators of the NLA for adopting the December 15, 2017 resolution “in support of Solution and not Election;” and the Core Committee of Nagaland Tribal Hohos and Civil Organisations (CCNTHCO) in particular and all Nagas in general for “exhibiting unflinching commitment towards our common aspiration through Solution not Election.”   On the negotiating table, it claimed that the political dialogue between the Government of India and Naga National Political Groups have begun earnestly with both sides “signing an agreed position.”   The NNPG WC lamented that the Election Commission of India (ECI) announced the election “in our homeland in total disregard to our people’s demand.” “This has united all Nagas! Today the once deeply fragmented Tribal hohos, GBs, Churches and Naga National political groups have come to understand that despite our differences, all sections of Nagas have come to a common understanding on the issue of Solution not Election,” it added.   It also reminded how during the January 28 joint meeting the NNPG Working Committee and NSCN (IM) signed a joint statement appealing to intending candidates to consider the Indo-Naga political solution above electoral interests. Meanwhile, on January 29, eleven national and regional political parties in Nagaland appended their signatures pledging not to distribute or file nomination papers, it recalled.
