KOHIMA: Welcoming the ceasefires being extended from time to time between the Government of India and the underground groups, the Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) today regretted that there was no ceasefire between the different underground groups.

“The present ceasefire arrangement has become counter productive since violence, killings, extortions etc. remain unabated,” the NPCC said in its resolution adopted at the PCC members meeting here today.

The resolution pointed out the people has no peace of mind when there is no freedom of expression and security to protect them.

The NPCC was of the view that the political sovereignty lies with the people and they (people) must enunciate the basic principle of the Naga political polity and further suggested certain points for perusal.

It suggested that with a view to create a conducive atmosphere, all forms of hostilities, violence, killings and extortions within ourselves must come to an end, the underground groups must reconcile in mutual trust, they should first strive for unity and in one voice, they should work out a strategy in bringing a lasting and amicable solution to the Naga political issue, the political parties of all shades of opinion in the state should jointly put their efforts to mould up the people’s view to express in a consolidated manner without fear so as to create understanding and peaceful co-existence within the people and extend effective support to pave the way for final solution on the Naga political issue acceptable to all sections of the Naga people.

It also suggested that every Naga tribe should hold exclusive meetings and bring forth unreserved resolutions to the general political convention convened by Nagaland Christian Forum for wider consultation with the Underground leaders to work out a consensus for final settlement of the Naga political issue.

The NPCC also resolved to renew its pledge to the people and re-affirm its commitments to the ideals of building Nagaland into welfare, modern and democratic state based on the Rule of law, equality of opportunity, generating socio-economic and political justice to all its citizen with special emphasis to provide ample employment opportunities to the youth.

The NPCC also took strong note of the religions fundamentalists like RSS, VHP, Bajrang Dal etc catalyst of BJP who are desperately attempting to undermine the secular and pluralistic foundation of the Country.

“The underhanded attempts are being made to re-write the Constitution of India and change the basic structure and fundamentalist policy is being pursued, to divide the society and to create theocratic polity,” the NPCC continued.

The NPCC renew its pledge to the Naga people that, it will fight the doctrinaire communal forces and the religious fundamentalism and re-dedicate itself with a renew vigor to uphold the secular, socialistic and democratic ideals, and hereby resolved that “it will continue to fight for upliftment of the downtrodden people in the society.

In the meantime, the party called upon all the right thinking people to come and join the congress party and take up the challenges and uphold the party policy and programmes for peace and prosperity in the state.
