No land compensation for rail – Rio

Dimapur, March 21 (DIPR): Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio has said that no land compensation for opening railroad in the state will be given. He said this unequivocally at a public meeting at Molungyimsen village, about 90 KM from Mokokchung on 19th March 2011.
Rio made it very clear that vehicular roads and rail roads are being constructed by the government as it is for the welfare of the people. Deeply lamenting on the demand for land compensation for opening railroad, Rio said the amount for meeting the land compensation exceed the cost of the construction. However, he said the damage caused to properties etc will be compensated by the government.
The chief minister’s announcement came close on the heels of Union Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee’s announcement in her Railway Budget speech 2011-12 that all state capitals in the Northeast will be connected by rail in the next seven years. It includes a proposal for opening a railroad on the foothills of Nagaland from Dimapur to Tezit via Tuli.
