Training on ‘foundational literacy and numeracy’ for elementary teachers held in Tseminyu
Kohima, April 30 (MExN): The Educational Block Resource Centre (EBRC) Samagra Shiksha Tseminyu conducted two-day long block level training on ‘foundational literacy and numeracy’ for elementary teachers on April 29 and 30 at EBRC Hall Tseminyu.
It was organized by District Mission Authority Samagra Shiksha Kohima.
During the inaugural session, Thongsenlo Rengma, Assistant District Coordinator (DMA SS Kohima) said that “no learner can progress in education without solid foundation on literacy and numeracy at an early stage of learning process.”
He lamented that despite of various interventions being initiated, progress report of learners are quite alarming in matters of Learning Outcomes and report of PRATHAM.
He emphasized that under NEP 2020, the highest priority of the education system will be to achieve universal foundational literacy and numeracy in primary school by 2025. Further, he impressed upon the teachers to re-energize the system through dedication to one's task.
Chengeseng Kath, Area Education Officer (AEO) under SDEO Tseminyu admitted that teachers underwent much training and they are well equipped now. However, he queried whether there was any striking balance in the system.
Admitting that the figures of students declining enrolment and even poor parents opting for alternative schools to send their children to study as a cause of concern, he urged teacher trainees to adopt plans and policies being the real executors to reverse the trend. He reiterated the gathering to comply with school education guidelines on COVID-19 and remain at their place of posting.
The resource persons for the training included Rushulo Khing (Coordinator), Francis Rengma (TOT) and Hinilo Cheng (TOT). Altogether, 40 schools with two specified teachers joined the training.
