Minister Paiwang Konyak today informed that currently, the Railways do not have any proposal to extend the railway line from the present Tuli Station.

He was replying to a question raised by MLA Nukultoshi on the current status of the railway station located at 10 mile Tuli in Mokokchung district in the NLA session today.

Tuli Railway station which is connected to Amguri had served passenger services from December 2002 to July 2007.

“However, due to poor patronization, passenger services were withdrawn after July, 2007. Currently, the status remains the same and the station is open for handling of outward goods traffic,” the Minister stated. He added that 59 rakes were loaded in the financial year 2022-23. “This year, till date, 4 rakes were handled. However, there are no passenger services that serve the station,” the Minister said.

MLA Nuklutoshi urged that the railway station be extended to proper Tuli Town, and asked the government to pursue this with the Ministry.

Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio in reply said that the present Tuli to Amguri railway line was purely constructed for lifting of goods like coal and other forest products, which was taken up under the initiative of the State Government.

He said that the railways are basically for economic activities and railway lines will go wherever there is demand. Rio assured the House that the State Government will pursue wherever is possible, including Tuli station and beyond.
