‘No question of misusing NREGS fund’

Phek Block VDB Union refutes news report

Phek, June 12 (MExN): The VDB Union of Phek Block has expressed its resentment over the news report ‘PDCC allege misuse of NREGA Provision’ issued by Mikha Kenye, president of the Phek DCC, in local dailies.

Vekhoci, the VDB Union’s president, secretary Hasheveyi and finance secretary Razukhuyi, stated in a press release that the rural populace of Phek district welcomed the NREGA Program which has ensured the livelihood security of the poor people by providing employment and at the same time created many durable assets which would not have been possible without NREGS. Under the NREGA, huge fund was received by the VDBs during 2008–2009 under DRDA Phek and maximum fund was allocated to the VDBs and money was also released through them by the respective program officer. As such there is no question of misusing the NREGS fund, stated the VDB Union of Phek Block.

“There may be few cases of VDBs using machineries in road construction where the work cannot be done by manpower to ensure successful implementation of the programme, but in the case of Phek Block no implementing agencies used machineries. The allegation that VDBs approved schemes were overruled and work order were issued by the MLAs is totally false,” they stated.

The Union also added that “if Mikha Kenye has noticed any manipulation and misuse of NREGA provision in any particular block or village(s) it may be brought to the notice of the appropriate authority for rectification which will be appreciated. So far as Phek Block is concerned the workers have received their full wages and there was no delay in payment of wages and the implementation of NREGS is quite successful.”

The Union further added that “a responsible leader like him should not indulge in making while allegation against the whole district discouraging the department officers implementing agencies ignoring their tireless efforts to uplift the rural people and bring about development. Should there be any stop in flow of fund to the district under NREGS because of the complaint/litigation filed by him, he will be held responsible for the loss suffered by the people of the district”.
