Nobel laureate advises VIT-AP graduates to take risks

Vijayawada, September 24 (MExN): Nobel laureate Dr M Stanley Whittingham of Binghamton University called upon the student community to take advantage of every opportunity they get and learn to take risks.

Addressing the virtual convocation of VIT-AP University for the class of 2021 on September 23 as chief guest, Dr Whittingham, in his keynote address, mentioned three important points from his Nobel speech: Science is interdisciplinary; science is international as it has no boundaries; and science can solve pandemics—be it COVID or global warming. He also asked the students to pursue their dreams with patience and research

A total of 460 students were awarded bachelors, masters, and PhD Degrees in Engineering and BBA. (BBA-27,   M.Tech VLSI-6 , B.Tech (Mechanical)-67, B.Tech (ECE)-120, B.Tech (CSE)-238 Ph.D-2 ). The chief guest also inaugurated Mahatma Gandhi, Neelam Sanjeeva Reddy and Savitribai Phule Blocks, and Rock Plaza- a Student Activity Center, set up on the campus, a press release informed.

“Graduations and commencement ceremonies mark major transitional golden moments in a student’s life. They celebrate all the hard work you put into your education and achievements and make you look forward to the future with much hope. As we reflect on the past year and unprecedented challenges brought on by COVID-19, we also celebrate all that we accomplished by working together, supporting one another, and keeping each other safe,” Founder  and Chancellor Dr G Viswanathan said while congratulating the alumni and graduating students. He also spoke briefly on the lives and achievements of Mahatma Gandhi, Neelam Sanjeeva Reddy, and Savithribhai Phule as the new buildings were named after them.

Director of Customer Experience & Success at Microsoft India, Mayurika Singh who was the guest of honour, lauded the students and encouraged them to learn to take chances, build their skills, hearn from experiences and have a ‘growth mindset.’ 

VIT vice presidents Dr Sekar Viswanathan, Dr Sankar Viswanathan and G V Selvam, Executive Director Dr Sandhya Pentareddy, Assistant Vice President Kadambari Viswanathan, vice chancellor Dr SV Kota Reddy, registrar Dr CLV Sivakumar and other faculty members also attended the convocation, the release stated.
