Designated camp of URF(C) in Manipur attacked Imphal, March 6 (PTI): Suspected militants attacked a designated camp of the members of the United Revolutionary Front (Chingkheinganba), which suspended operation in an agreement with the state government, at Napet Pali in Imphal East district, police said. About ten suspected militants fired from sophisticated weapons and hurled bombs during the 30-minute operation at the camp on Wednesday night, a police officer said. Although nobody was injured, property worth around Rs 1.5 lakh was damaged. Police recovered from the spot the following morning an unexploded hand grenade along with forty empty cases, seven projectiles of AK-57, a plastic AK-57 magazine with eight rounds and three projectile of M 16, he said. Meanwhile, the Maoist Communist Party, Manipur, in a statement today claimed that it had carried out the attack.  

Arunachal governor calls for corruption-free state Itanagar, March 6 (PTI): Arunachal Pradesh Governor J P Rajkhowa has called upon the newly inducted ministers to eradicate corruption and make the state corruption-free.  Interacting with the newly inducted ministers led by Chief Minister Kalikho Pul at Raj Bhawan on Saturday, the governor urged them to provide a transparent and people-oriented government, an official release said here today.  Rajkhowa advised them to focus on roads and said that "only through roads, Arunachal Pradesh can develop."  The chief minister had briefed the governor on the priorities of the government, particularly critical service sectors like roads, law and order, health and education, the release said.   CPI-M re-nominates Baidya for Tripura's Rajya Sabha seat Agartala, March 6 (IANS): Tripura's ruling Communist Party of India-Marxist on Sunday renominated Jharna Das Baidya as its candidate for the March 21 Rajya Sabha polls. The election to the lone Rajya Sabha seat comes as Baidya's six year term ends on April 2. "Jharna Das Baidya's name was selected unanimously for the Rajya Sabha elections in the CPI-M state committee meeting today (Sunday)," CPI-M state committee member Haripada Das told reporters after the meeting. The CPI-M candidate's win in the polls are almost certain as the strength of the ruling Left Front in the 60-member house is 50. Main opposition Congress has 10 members. Before being elected to upper house of parliament, Baidya had served as the chairperson of the State Social Welfare Board. The 53-year-old woman leader belongs to the Scheduled Caste community.
