Assam Police seize Rs. 41 lakhs from two persons Guwahati, March 17 (ANI): The Assam Police on Thursday seized Rs. 41 lakhs in Guwahati from two persons."We have recovered a total amount of Rs. 41 lakhs from possession of two people during regular checking. We are currently verifying the source. We have informed the income tax department," Deputy Commissioner of Police Vivekananda Das told ANI.  

CBSE reschedules its examination in Assam Guwahati, March 17 (PTI): The Central Board of Secondary Education has rescheduled its Class XII board Examination for Sociology, Sanskrit Core and Bengali due to Assembly Election in Assam. Assistant Secretary of CBSE, regional office Guwahati has informed that the Sociology (039) examination scheduled for April 4 next will be held on April 23, said a government release here today. The Sanskrit Core (322) and Bengali (105) examinations scheduled for April 11 will now be held on April 26, the release said. The two-phase assembly elections will be held on April 4 and 11.   CEC and ECs to travel to poll-bound Assam next week New Delhi, March 17 (PTI): The full bench of the Election Commission (EC) is expected to travel to Assam next week to review preparations for the forthcoming Assembly polls in the state. Officials said a full EC team led by Chief Election Commissioner Nasim Zaidi and Election Commissioners A K Joti and O P Rawat is expected to be in Guwahati on March 21-22 where they are expected to hold meetings with top officials of the state election machinery and Representatives of various political parties. The EC will also take stock of the electoral rolls and measures deployed for security of the booths and facilities to be provided to the voters during the two-day visit. The 126-member Assam assembly will have a two phase polling on April 4 and 11 while the counting of votes will take place on May 19 along with four other states which also go to polls in the same cycle.   Mizoram unveils Rs.8,000 crore budget Aizawl, March 17 (PTI): Mizoram Finance Minister Lalsawta Thursday presented budget 2016-17 with proposals worth Rs 8,038.39 crore and supplementary demands for the current fiscal amounting to Rs.1,126.99 crore.   In a press briefing after presenting the budget in the state assembly, Lalsawta said that the government proposed to levy entry tax on commodities, including those purchased online, from April 1.  However, he said the 'Mizoram Entry Tax Act, 2015' would not be implemented if the Parliament legislates the GST Bill during the current session as the GST would cover all the items under the state's Entry Tax Act.  He had failed to present regular budgets during the budget sessions in 2014 and 2015 as there was no clarity on plan fund allocation and central fund sharing pattern.
