Swaraj Bir Singh is new Meghalaya DGP Shillong, March 25 (IANS): Swaraj Bir Singh, a 1986 batch Assam-Meghalaya cadre Indian Police Service (IPS) officer, has been appointed as Meghalaya's Police Chief, an official said on Saturday. The ruling Congress-led Meghalaya United Alliance government issued a notification on Friday appointing Singh, who is also Sahitya Akademi Award for Punjabi recipient, as the full-fledged police chief of the state. A Home Department official said Singh was selected by the State Security Commission, headed by Chief Minister Mukul Sangma, from a panel of five senior IPS officers of the Assam-Meghalaya cadre. Singh was acting Director General of Police since October 31, 2016 following the retirement of Sunil Kumar Jain.   BYC office inauguration on March 26 Balijan, March 25 (MExN): Balijan Youth Club will inaugurate its office building here at Balijan (A) on March 26 at 10:00 am. In this connection, the youth body has asked all the executive members, members, well wishers, village elders and seniors to attend the event.   Mizoram assembly rejects resolution to repeal prohibition Act Aizawl, March 24 (PTI): Mizoram Assembly today rejected a resolution moved by Lalrinawma of opposition Mizo National Front (MNF) seeking repeal of the Mizoram Liquor Prohibition and Control (MLPC) Act, 2014. Lalrinawma’s resolution said the MLPC Act under which wine shops were opened in the state has created problems for churches, society, families and individuals and should be repealed and replaced by the stringent Mizoram Liquor Total Prohibition Act which was imposed earlier in the state. Ruling Congress legislators, including Chief Minister Lal Thanhawla, however, said that liquor was available in abundance even during the 17 years of prohibition and the state government has constituted a Review and Evaluation Committee on the MLPC Act. The committee had constituted a study group to study the impact of the enforcement of the act to the society, it said. The resolution was then rejected by a voice vote.   Oxigen signs MoU  with AP tourism Mumbai, March 25 (PTI): Payment solution provider, Oxigen Services, today said it has tied up with Arunachal Pradeshs tourism department for providing digital payment solution to the residents and tourists visiting the state.
