KOHIMA, OCT 18 (MExN): As the countdown to the Chakhesang Youth Front (CYF) Youth Day hits zero tomorrow, war of words are getting stronger with the state Home Minister, Thenucho, too, joining the row. While the CYF Session began today as per the schedule, Thenucho yesterday appealed to the Chakhesang youths to refrain from holding the session.
Home Minister convened a press conference at his office chamber and declared his support to the decision of the two CPO leaders, the out going president Vedayi Nyekha and president elect, Yesonu Veyie, who issued a press release yesterday, suggesting for the postponement of CYF Session.
Terming the decision of the CPO leaders as a wise one, Thenucho appealed to the Chakhesang community to respect the decision of the apex body, which he said is the only decision making body in the community.
“The decision of CPO is final, and the desire of the people is to maintain peace and harmony. For us unity is priority and there is no politics as such over the issue”, Thenucho had said.
But the CYF leader said that the controversy cropped only because of political interference.
Stating that the issue was cooked up by politicians, CYF leader, who doesn’t want to be named, said that the decision of two CPO leaders was done only after a meeting at the Home Minister’s residence on Monday night without consulting the people. He said that the community will initiate its own course of action against the persons.
“This is the first time in the history of CYF that such controversy is coming up. It is a shame”, said the leader. He said that the persons who try to disrupt the session are selfish and doesn’t have care for the welfare of the public, adding that the Chakhesang people are now matured enough to understand such issue with clarity.
Although, Home Minister yesterday cautioned that law and order situation may crop up if the session went ahead as per the schedule, CYF leader said that the session will be held without any disturbance as the whole community is behind the organizers.
The leader also said that if the situation cropped up it would be the responsibility of the Home Minister to take stock of the situation.
On Monday night, NPF Youth Phek Unit attempted to disrupt the programme, but failed to mobilize the volunteers, the CYF leader also alleged.
Earlier, when they contacted him, Home Minister was appreciative of the programme and agreed to come and share the dice with the Goa Governor and former Chief Minister, SC Jamir, claimed the youth leader, however, Thenucho told the press that although he is one of the speaker he would not be taking part in the Session.
Asked whether they have officially communicated to the Governor about the decision of the CPO, Home Minister said no, but the decision has been published in the local dailies therefore, the Governor should be aware of the situation.
“The Governor, I believe will respect the sentiment of the people”, Home Minister stated. However, the CYF said that Jamir was invited for the chief guest to the occasion not as a politician, but with honor as he is the Naga leader. Jamir it may be mentioned is already in Dimapur to attend the session.
