DIMAPUR, MARCH 26 (MExN): The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee has called upon the people of the state to judge as to “where the political parties stand, particularly on the issue of communalism and corruption.” A press note from the NPCC Media Cell stated that the “seeds of communalism seem to be sprouting up in Nagaland,” referring to the statements made by the Nagaland state unit of the BJP.
“Salivating at the prospects of Narendra Modi winning the electoral battle will however remain a farfetched dream for the communal forces,” the NPCC stated. It said that Narendra Modi’s “constant rhetoric on so called Gujarat model of development has run out of steam while the nation demands answers for 2002 Gujarat riots.”
It said that “by their own admission,” the Nagaland state BJP has “publicly stated that communalism like corruption is a non issue in contemporary politics.” Terming this as an “open admission,” the NPCC stated that it highlights “the fact that the communal forces have nothing new to offer but engage in a politics of spreading sectarian and divisive agenda to polarize the people for electoral gains.”
The NPCC further asserted that “labeling the BJP as communal party is not a wild allegation but a fact borne out of its association with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) which remains its ideological mentor and the final authority.” It stated that the “divisive agenda of communal forces” have “troubled the conscience of these ignorant communal agents.” It lamented that they instead “demand answers from the congress, whose professed stand on these issues are loud and clear, that communal forces will not be allowed to implement their divisive agenda.”
The NPCC further alleged that Nagaland Chief Minister, Neiphiu Rio has been “expanding his business empire during his tenures as Chief Minister,” and that the state treasury “has been totally emptied with the government facing numerous agitations over nonpayment of salaries for months.”
It stated that an opportunity has been served before the people of Nagaland to “outrightly reject the NPF joining hands with communal BJP.”
