Dimapur, January 8 (MExN): The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) has demanded resignation of Shamator-Chessore MLA S Keoshu Yimchunger to uphold the credentials of the Yimkhiung Tribal Council (YTC) before the people and for betraying the Congress party.
On Saturday, NPCC President K Therie issued a press release stating that the Congress had agreed with the YTC not to field its candidate in the bye-election to Shamator-Chessore Assembly Constituency in October last year as the ruling UDA government had assured to upgrade the subdivision into a district if the NDPP candidate is returned uncontested.
The NDPP candidate—S Keoshu Yimchunger, was elected unopposed in the bye election which amounts to paying in advance for the promise, Therie stated.
The UDA’s promise was taken as a sincere and honest commitment. “Such dishonesty is not expected from an experienced chief minister,” he added.
The NPCC President said the unrest created in the minds of the Yimkhiung community in the matter of granting the district to Shamator is the result of “a commitment without application of mind.”
“The government is in the know that there has been a history of over 35 years between Yimkhiung and Tikhir. Therefore unmindfully, they have committed,” the release stated. It said the formation of a third-party committee to negotiate with the civil society organisations is “with the intent to delay and shift the responsibilities.”
