Slams appointment of his son as Advisor with Cabinet status
Kohima, June 29 (MExN): The Congress in Nagaland today accused the Chief Minister Dr Shürhozelie Liezietsu of taking nepotism in the state “to greater heights” by appointing his son Khriehu Liezietsu as Advisor with Cabinet status and retaining the earlier portfolio of Music Task Force which he held as Parliamentary Secretary.
Terming the “unprecedented action” highly condemnable, the Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee in a press note from its Media Cell said that the “unmandated father-son duo has taken nepotism in the state to greater heights.”
While the NPCC has no issues in father-son duo running the affairs of the NPF party, yet the affairs of the government “cannot be allowed to be turned, twisted and manipulated,” for personal interest, it said.
“Becoming the Chief Minister by default does not give him the liberty to run the government like his personal fiefdom,” NPCC further charged.
Yet to prove mettle
In a personalised attack on the Chief Minister, the Congress also accused him of abandoning “the broken regional” ship to contest as an Independent candidate for 1999 Lok Sabha elections and claimed that, “it was only due to the efforts of some breakaway Congress leaders in 2002 who resurrected” the party.
“The NPF of today is in ruling position due to the efforts of other leaders” the NPCC maintained adding that “Dr Shürhozelie or for that matter TR Zeliang is yet to face an acid test of achieving victory in electoral battle under their leadership.” “Their achievements will only be known after 2018 assembly elections.”
“As President of the NPF, the misgovernance of the NPF has taken place under his patronage for nearly 15 years,” it further alleged though the NPCC did not cite any instances. It also accused the NPF President for the “ULB” and “Rongmei recognition” imbroglios In this regard, the NPCC said that the NPF would do well to “tone down its arrogance and tunnelled vision of political discourse since the present lots who are occupying seats of power in different capacities are yet to prove their mettle.”
On Presidential Poll
The Congress further questioned the “natural ally” assertion between Naga Peoples’ Front (NPF) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) arguing that such claim is “worth pondering by all right thinking people of Nagaland.”
“NPF may feel that NPCC has no moral right to question their support for BJP-RSS Presidential candidate, but then the divisive threat of BJP-RSS is not confined to Congress alone as political opponents but to the Naga’s as whole,” it maintained. It further said that the NPF’s attack on NPCC President K Therie on the issue concerning the upcoming Presidential poll in the nation holds no substance.
